This is the IAPP's purpose-built AI governance credential — a new entry and about as thesis-pure as anything on the index. It exists because the EU AI Act and the laws following it created a profession that wasn't there before.
AI governance leads, responsible-AI officers and compliance counsel — the people building AI inventories, risk classifications and conformity processes. They work at multinationals deploying AI and at the firms advising them.
Regulation is the demand engine, and it's accelerating. AIGP looks set to become for AI governance what CIPP became for privacy, though the evidence is still young and the rating leans on that trajectory. It stacks with CIPP/CIPM or CRISC.
The risk is being first. The category could settle around a rival instead — ISACA and ISO-aligned certs are circling — and a young credential's premium is only one competing standard away from dilution.
