The design tier of the pro-AV certification suite the best-paid of the three AVIXA credentials. It sits in a niche industry, one that's converging quickly with IT and unified communications.
AV system designers — the people producing signal-flow drawings, DSP configurations and room standards. They work at AV integrators, consultancies, and large corporates that run their own AV estates.
Design scarcity keeps CTS-D the strongest AVIXA asset. But the industry is shifting toward AV-over-IP and Teams/Zoom room ecosystems, and the premium is following the network and UC skills that go with them. Pair it with networking (CCNA) or Microsoft credentials.
The risk is convergence. As AV turns into an IT workload, IT-certified engineers pick up AV scope faster than AV-certified engineers pick up IT scope. Standardized room systems eat into demand for bespoke design as well.
