This is IT's front door the pay sits about where it always has. No credential in the industry's history has been issued in greater volume. The premium is flat, though, and the entry-level market it feeds is visibly shrinking as AI-era support automation takes hold.
Help-desk technicians, field-service engineers and desktop-support staff — the profession's entry-level population. They work at MSPs, in corporate IT and across the public sector.
A+ still opens the door it always opened — but the room behind it is getting smaller. Treat it as a way in rather than a place to stay, and move on quickly: Network+, then Security+, then a cloud fundamentals cert. Tier-1 support is where automation lands first.
The direct threat is AI service-desk tooling. Ticket deflection and automated resolution cut the number of tier-1 staff needed per user, and those are exactly the roles this credential feeds. This is an established trend, not a forecast.
