The analyst note

The read

This is an index line running ahead of its certification market, and worth being plain about. Our research turned up no current flagship edge-computing certification — Red Hat's EX310 has retired — so the figure is a role proxy. The demand is real enough, across industrial IoT, retail and telco MEC, but it isn't credentialed.

Who holds it

Edge and IoT platform engineers pushing compute out to the sites where it's needed: K3s and edge Kubernetes, device fleets, connectivity. Their employers are manufacturers, retailers and telcos.

The case for the verdict

The skillset is valuable, but there's no credential path to speak of, which is what makes this line an awkward fit for a certification index. In practical terms, CKA plus a cloud IoT specialism is the certifiable way into edge work.

The risk

This is more a question of index integrity than of the market. A line with no certification underneath it ought to be restructured or dropped in a future build, unless a flagship cert turns up to fill the gap.
