This is the most conflicted line on the index. Terraform is still the infrastructure-as-code standard, yet posting demand has eroded over three years, the clearest erosion anywhere on the index. IBM's acquisition of HashiCorp and the OpenTofu fork only add to the uncertainty.

Platform and DevOps engineers who write infrastructure as code: module design, state management, CI-integrated provisioning. In practice they're everywhere a cloud-mature organization operates.

The verdict holds at INVEST this quarter. The skill is still close to mandatory, but the cert premium is compressing as Terraform fluency becomes something employers assume rather than ask you to certify. A further sharp drop in postings would move it to DIVERSIFY.

It's the fate of every standard that wins: once a skill is assumed, the premium goes with it. AI code generation already writes competent Terraform, which only speeds the slide from specialty to baseline.
