This is PMI's rarest credential — a figure that sits higher than the rank would suggest, and the index flags the mismatch. The pay really reflects how senior the few holders are; the tiny market is what limits its use as a signal.
Portfolio directors and PMO heads who govern investment portfolios across whole programs, typically inside very large enterprises and government departments. The global holder count runs into the low thousands, no more.
For the handful already working in portfolio governance, it makes a fine capstone. As a career instrument, though, it's illiquid — too few job adverts name it to bank on. For most people, PMP plus some demonstrable portfolio experience does the same work.
With so few holders, the salary figure rests on thin statistics and could move easily. Expect this line to be re-ranked in a future build, once that salary-versus-rank inconsistency gets resolved.
