This is the most speculative line on the index, and worth being blunt about: there's no flagship 'quantum engineer' certification out there. The closest real thing has been IBM's Qiskit Associate exam (C1000-112), which itself appears to have retired, and quantum roles stay PhD-gated with tiny posting counts — around 62 IBM-quantum postings turned up. Read the figure as a role proxy, not a certification salary.
Quantum software engineers and researchers — writing Qiskit/Cirq circuits, doing error-mitigation work and building hybrid quantum-classical algorithms. Almost all of them sit at vendors, national labs, or the research arms of a handful of banks.
Treat this as a venture bet: a tiny market, a long horizon, and asymmetric upside if fault-tolerant machines actually arrive. For nearly everyone reading, it belongs on a watch-list rather than in a career plan. IBM's Qiskit track is the nearest concrete way in — check it's still available before you act on it.
The category may simply never mature on any timescale that helps you. And an index line with no real certification sitting under it is a strong candidate for restructuring in the next build.
